13 Feb 2ND GENERATION CHARGING BELT DELIVERED FROM AXONICS
Based on input from many patients Axonics redesigned their recharging belt to optimize patient experience. The curved design offers improved ergonomic fit (Shown Below) and offers an enhanced charging experience. IPG placement moved from a lateral pocket placement to a medial pocket placement based on high volume patient trials. 2-year recharge data indicates high compliance, ease of use, and satisfaction (>94%) which will only increase with a monthly recharge (Launched Summer 2020), but the ARTISTRY trial will verify that assumption. Patient specific recharge reminders and educational videos help with compliance. The recent customizable charging tool optimizes recharging efficiency if a patient is challenged with recharging.
By comparison a recent meeting webinar with another brand delivered by 2 excellent high volume fellowship trained SNM implantors revealed that only 10% of their patients were selecting recharge SNM with Overdrive technology citing overwhelming management of components (4 items to recharge) amongst their elderly population and inability to recharge weekly in obese patients due to poor connectivity. My typical patient is around 65 and has a BMI over 30. In addition, staged lead trials require additional training and surgical variation from the prior generation as described in an urgent medical device safety notification sent to SNM implantors to prevent more surgical incisions and migrated leads resulting in possible further surgery to replace a damaged lead.
